Myth Happens - Didn't I say that on the other side of the record?

1. In honor of Peter Bergman, lesser_celery and I decided to forego our usual Millennium in favor of Firesign Theatre. He brought over his copy of How Can You Be in Two Places at Once When You're Not Anywhere at All (1969) and we listened to "The Further Adventures of Nick Danger." It didn't take very long to get to the other side of the record. I believe a number has been done on my head. "Look at this grape!"

2. I think it takes a very particular kind of shallow to read a mixed review for a television show that is not even playing in your country and think, "Why am I not watching that? Lee Ingleby looks smashing in a sweater vest." But he's playing an early computing geek!

3. Lost Hollywood jewelry. I knew nothing of Eugene Joseff. The photo of him with the crown and scepter from The Prisoner of Zenda (1937) is immensely endearing.

It is nine o'clock and I'm exhausted. Oh, God, what if I'm becoming diurnal?

Good heavens! Have you offended a witch?

. . . Not that I know about. If I start waking up at six, we can worry.

Hah. Here, Sovay, let me show you how it's done. There's the sideways smiley:

:-)

Or the sideways smiley without a nose:

:)

Or the sideways smiley with an open grin:

:D

Or, my personal favorite, the vertical smiley with the crinkled eyes:

2.

I don't think it's shallow, per se, just, oh... something else. I'm too tired to think.*

3.

This is a wonderful piece. Thank you for sharing. That photograph you referenced is charming, and I'm amused by the anecdote about Errol Flynn "losing" his earring during dressing room trysts when he was playing Don Juan.

Oh, God, what if I'm becoming diurnal?

Goodness, that doesn't sound a fun thing to be. I hope you can find pleasant rest tonight.

I'm exhausted as well; I couldn't sleep much last night.

*You're not worse than I am, at least. There's an equestrian portrait of Catherine the Great that always makes me wish I could... not have a relationship with her (I'm not comfortable being that close to power) but meet her one afternoon, in some neutral setting, for a ride through a park together and then go for a quiet drink, and never mind the facts that I've not been on a horse in more than a decade and I'd have to speak French to her, which is by far my worst language.

He looks like the character I'd like best.

I hadn't heard many of the stories in that article. I like knowing them.

That's just it—I'm used to the insomnia, but what'll I do with myself if I start sleeping at night?

Quick, call a doctor before it's too late!

I hear people do other things at night; it was in that article in the Guardian about our natural circadian cycle.

I don't think I have a natural circadian cycle.

When you mentioned that your subject line the other day came from Firesign Theatre, I had a moment of nostalgia for something I myself never knew. My best friend from high school had been very into Firesign Theatre--I remember her mentioning it and quoting it.

I also listened to Nick Danger, and discovered that I can still recite it word for word.

So could lesser_celery, although he restrained himself on most of the best lines.
